Bromelain has recently been recognized for its amazing anti-inflammatory benefits, and reading some sites, you would think that bromelain was the cure-all for all of your common problems. You would think that by using bromelain, your pain would just disappear and never come back. Even better, all you would have to do is eat a bit of pineapple. But it’s not quite that simple.
You Need Bromelain, Not Pineapple
Bromelain is an extract of pineapple, not the whole fruit. If you eat a piece of pineapple, you will get a small amount of bromelain, but not enough to actually relieve pain, inflammation, swelling, and healing. You would need at least 80mg-320mg depending on your size, body type, etc. to get results, and you would probably get about 2-10mg is my guess in a piece of pineapple.
There is No Instant Relief
Bromelain takes time to work. It takes a couple weeks to reduce the symptoms of heart angina, and it takes a few days to make arthritis and other pain go away, working gradually when taken on a regular basis. This is not quite like aspirin. But it is more likely to promote long term results. And it works best not on its own, but when combined with glucosamine, another common joint formula. But there is one big thing that most would have never expected.
Bromelain Can Address Major Digestive Issues
Bromelain has been connected to digestive disorders as serious as Crohn’s disease, and it seems to relieve pain and inflammation to the point of actually helping Crohn’s patients and those with other potentially painful digestive disorders.
