What Is Fenproporex?
If you’ve decided to make a trip to Brazil any time soon, you may run into doctors selling something called Fenproporex. Actually, the only way you would is if you are specifically looking for it, and I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen the scary news reports on people who visit other countries for cheap prescriptions, cheap surgery, and “miracle cures” that don’t turn out to be so miraculous. The fact that Fenproporex is only available in Brazil should tell you something.
Is Fenproporex Powerful?
I honestly couldn’t tell you. I’m not even sure why makers of Fenproporex applied for FDA approval in the first place. I couldn’t find a single study on the weight loss benefits of Fenproporex. I found one abstract and multiple case studies on the side effects of Fenproporex. But that’s to be expected with any amphetamine or stimulant based substance, especially one that is supposed to be a prescription.
What Are These Side Effects?
Most case studies cover dependence and the risk of abuse. But others show a high risk of brain damage, death, and serious long term heart problems. Users will test positive for amphetamines, and some cases studies and other studies have shown that Fenproporex could even kill you, which is why it was never approved for sale in the US.
Why is Fenproporex Limited to Brazil?
I couldn’t tell you why Brazil still allows doctors to sell it. But I do know why nobody else sells it. Some countries approved it at first, even with the lack of weight loss related clinical studies. But after a number of deaths were reported, which have not been reported with other amphetamines like Phentermine and Bontril, most countries found it to be too much, as did the World Doping Organization which controls all major professional sports.
Conclusion of Fenproporex
Fenproporex makers went through the process of applying to most major countries for approval. But as it turned out, Fenproporex wasn’t nearly as impressive as one might expect, and I don’t doubt that the studies did not actually show the weight loss studies makers were hoping for, hence why those studies have never actually been published. Others have been more than willing to publish studies on the side effects. But independent parties evidently don’t think it’s worth it to conduct any studies on the possible benefits.
