GLA in cranberries has become known for a number of different benefits, depending of course on who you talk to. Some are more conventional than others. But some customers are more surprised every time a new study confirming certain cranberry benefits comes out. After all, a cranberry is just a fruit, a bitter tasting one at that, and GLA is just a good fatty acid. Outside of cholesterol benefits, what could GLA possibly do?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Clinical studies show that children with ADHD for some reason have lower levels of many different essential fatty acids including GLA. By replacing these EFA’s, some studies seem to show that you could reduce the symptoms of ADHD in some patients. You should also supplement in omega 3 fatty acids as many seem to also suffer this kind of deficiency. But some studies find it to be no more effective than a placebo.
Breast Cancer
One study showed that women who happened to have breast cancer who took GLA had a better response to common breast cancer drugs like tamoxifen. It is never meant to be used as a substitute for proper anti-cancer drugs. But it can improve the effectiveness.
Menopause
Some carriers of GLA, like primrose oil and cranberries, have been recognized as female supplements, because GLA reduces the symptoms of menopause as well as hot flashes, night sweats, and for that matter breast tenderness and pain.
