What Is Hydroxycut?
Hydroxycut easily became one of the industry giants in the days when ephedra was the next big thing. They provided several different products, basically one for every type of dieter. But as of May 1, 2009, all supplies of 14 different Hydroxycut products have been recalled. The FDA has officially warned dieters to stop Hydroxycut use immediately, due to reports of serious liver damage, related jaundice, which is essentially marked by liver failure, yellowing of the skin, etc.
Why Was Hydroxycut Recalled?
This major move was also prompted largely by the fact that a one user, a 19 year old man, experienced jaundice, liver failure, and died in 2007. However, this death was not actually reported to the FDA until March of 2009. Other patients experienced the same symptoms. But at least one has received a liver transplant, while another is on the waiting list. So far, there have been 23 reported cases of liver problems including the reported death.
Can Hydroxycut Be Safe?
Severe liver damage as reported in these cases is not generally associated with the levels of caffeine found in most Hydroxycut products. And the fact that other users have reported seizures, cardiovascular disorder, and rhabdomyolysis or the rapid breakdown of the skeletal muscle tissue, means that caffeine was definitely not the only thing in their blends. Thankfully, this product has been recalled. Since then, Hydroxycut does still sell its products. However, the ingredients are much more mild and, therefore, far less effective. There are plenty of far better products out there that are effective and that don’t put you at serious risks. We recommend finding a different product.
